School Bus Operators start their day early and often times finish after the sun has gone down. As part of School Bus Driver Appreciation Week, Buffalo Elementary School bought their bus drivers lunch and Buffalo Middle School Students made a giant 'Thank You' sign for their drivers. What a great way for students to show their appreciation!
After listening to "Froggy's First Kiss" Mrs. Smarr's students at Kellogg Elementary broke up into small groups to work on an important skill...sequencing. Students worked together to put the pictures from the book in the correct order. A perfect Valentine's Day lesson to build reading comprehension and communication skills!

We have received a few questions asking how to find the Vinson High School Memorabilia pictures that have been posted on Vinson Middle School's website. Follow the steps below to find your favorite VHS memory.
1. Go to https://vms.wayn.k12.wv.us/
2. At the top (and to the right) of the home page, click on Menu.
3. When the menu pops up, find the About Us section. It is located on the far left side.
4. Click on "Vinson High School Archives" under the About Us section
5. Click on the VHS Archive button
6. Pick a decade and enjoy!
From 1934 until 1998, thousands of students and educators called Vinson High School home. For 64 years, memories were made, diplomas were earned, and championships were won.
Many of those achievements and memories have been on display inside Vinson Middle School, the former VHS, and they are now displayed on the VMS website! There are pictures from the 1930s on up. The images include class pictures, trophies, plaques, retired jerseys, and more.

A fun side note about this project. The day the pictures were taken, several current VMS students spotted their parents' class picture. We hope you enjoy those pictures as much as your kids did!
School Guidance Counselors wear many different hats throughout the school year, sometimes they wear four or five hats at once. Whether it be helping students plan their future education or career goals or giving students a space to talk, school counselors mission is to maximize student success, and promote access and equity for all students.
To highlight the important role school counselors play in education, the first full week in February is National School Counseling Week. We are grateful for the many talented counselors working in Wayne County Schools. Thank you for the countless hours spent ensuring all students have the opportunity to reach their academic and career goals.
The Wayne High School RAZE club went to the state capitol last month to attend Tobacco Free Day. It was a great opportunity to learn more about the dangers of tobacco and get a closer look at how the legislative process works! Way to go, Pioneers!

This Wednesday, February 7th, is a Professional Learning Day (PL Day) for WCS Employees, there is no school for students that day.
This PL Day was originally scheduled for February 14th but had to be moved to this Wednesday. February 14th will be a normal school day for staff and students. Check out other important dates this month in the picture below.

Now that we are in the 2nd half of the school year, 8th graders are beginning to prepare for the next chapter in their educational journey. This week, VMS 8th grade students met with SVHS counselors and administrators to ask questions about high school and fill out their class preferences. They also received information on CTE courses available at SVHS, including the six CTE programs open to 9th graders. August will be here for you know it!
Parents/Guardians - The Absence Excuse Form has been added to our website. Once you are on the home page, click on the menu tab in the top right corner. The Absence Excuse button is under the 'Family & Students' section. After selecting the Absence Excuse button, you will be directed to a page to choose the form that corresponds with your students school.
