Wayne County Robotics League has 18 teams qualified for 2024 WV State Championship VEX IQ Robotics Competition: Full Volume. Championship matches take place this Thursday (03/14/2024) for middle school teams and this Friday and Saturday (03/15-03/16) for elementary teams at Fairmont State University in Fairmont, WV. On the Alliance fields, teams work with other students from around the state to score points by using their robots to remove blocks from starting positions, place blocks in goal towers, and clear blocks and then park their robots in the Supply Zone. On the Skills fields, teams independently demonstrate their driving and autonomous coding skills to score points in the same manner. Teams are also judged on their Engineering notebooks, which are maintained throughout the season and demonstrate all growth and changes in the team and their robots, as well as rigorous interviews. Qualifying Wayne County teams hail from: Elementary Middle Buffalo Elementary Buffalo Middle Ceredo-Kenova Elementary Ceredo-Kenova Middle East Lynn Elementary Crum PK8 Lavalette Elementary Vinson Middle Prichard Elementary Wayne Middle Spring Valley High School robotics team 57660W Project Valley took home the Design Award at the recent 2024 WV State Championship VEX Robotics Competition: Over Under! This win secured the team a spot to compete in the World Championship in Dallas, TX in April! The Design Award recognizes this team’s organized and professional approach to the Engineering Design Process, project and time management, and team organization via their Engineering Notebook and Team Interview. Both Spring Valley Robotics teams earned their way to compete at this year’s state championship.

Spring Valley's Macy Smith snagged the top spot in SPAR (Spontaneous Argumentation) at the West Virginia State Speech and Debate Competition in Morgantown! Congratulations on your first place finish, Macy!

The Family Engagement Event taking place online at 5 p.m. today has been postponed indefinitely due to unforeseen circumstances.

Pictured are students from Ceredo-Kenova Middle School and Buffalo Middle School. These schools won the last two MATHia competitions. Superintendent Alexander presented each school with the MATHia trophy based on their overall math performance for the six weeks grading periods. The second six weeks winner was Ceredo-Kenova Middle School, and the third six weeks winner was Buffalo Middle School. Congratulations to CKMS and BMS! Which school will be the next winner of the coveted MATHia trophy?

Fort Gay PK-8 will release at 10:AM, Monday March 11th due to a water outage.

This ground beef was raised and processed by students at Tolsia High School. Later this month, cooks at THS are going to use that meat for two farm to table lunches. - March 15th, Hamburgers - March 20th, Spaghetti w/meat sauce Locally grown/raised food tastes fresh and is extremely nutritious. Great job by all those who made this farm to table meal possible!

Another dominant season for the Lady Pioneers is in the books. They fell just short against Nitro in today's state basketball tournament semifinal matchup. The game was close the entire second half and came down to the final few possessions. The effort on display today, and all season, has been fun to watch. Congratulations on a great year! This week we are highlighting 2 different Governor’s Schools: The Governor’s Honors Academy and the Governor’s School of Literacy through Arts, Culture, and History. The application deadline for both of these programs is March 29th. The Governor’s Honors Academy requires a letter of recommendation from the Superintendent which should be completed by March 22nd at the latest! If you are heading out on a road trip, fueling up your car is a must. The same is true for people too. Our bodies need fuel to function properly. A nutritious (and delicious) breakfast sets students up for the rest of the day. To highlight the importance of a nutritious breakfast, the School Nutrition Association has designated this week as National School Breakfast Week. As a part of this campaign, WCS cooks created a special breakfast menu for the week. A strawberry cream bagel was on the menu today!

At the half - Wayne - 38 Keyser - 10 WHS' Addie Adkins has hit five threes and leads all scorers at the half with 15 points.

The boys and girls West Virginia State Wrestling Tournament took place over the weekend in Huntington at Mountain Health Arena. This is the first year the boys and girls state wrestling tournaments were held in the same location. Having all the state’s best wrestlers in one venue was electric. The atmosphere made for a great back drop for one of the state’s most dominant wrestlers, Spring Valley’s Ciera Riner. 4-Peat: Ciera finished this season just like the previous three, state champion. She also picked up her 200th career win enroute to her 4th state title! Winning one state championship is a tough, winning four in a row is almost unheard of. Congratulations Ciera on a tremendous high school wrestling career! Ciera was not the only Timberwolf that earned a spot on the podium – Jocelyn Adkins took home second place and Rebekah Napier took home third place in their respective divisions! Congratulations Jocelyn and Rebekah! Earning a top spot at the state tournament highlights the hard work put in to reach this point.

Lockdown Lifted: The soft lockdown for all schools in Wayne County has been lifted. Through their investigation, law enforcement determined there is no credible threat to any school, students, or staff in Wayne County. WCS appreciates the quick and thorough response from our law enforcement partners on this matter. We would also like to thank all our parents/guardians and students/staff for your cooperation and understanding this morning. Thank you.

This morning, Monday, March 4th, law enforcement informed WCS (Wayne County Schools) about a concerning message found on Snapchat. The message was not school specific. Out of an abundance of caution, WCS is operating on a soft-lockdown while police investigate the matter. Thank you.
