This ground beef was raised and processed by students at Tolsia High School. Later this month, cooks at THS are going to use that meat for two farm to table lunches. - March 15th, Hamburgers - March 20th, Spaghetti w/meat sauce Locally grown/raised food tastes fresh and is extremely nutritious. Great job by all those who made this farm to table meal possible!

Another dominant season for the Lady Pioneers is in the books. They fell just short against Nitro in today's state basketball tournament semifinal matchup. The game was close the entire second half and came down to the final few possessions. The effort on display today, and all season, has been fun to watch. Congratulations on a great year! This week we are highlighting 2 different Governor’s Schools: The Governor’s Honors Academy and the Governor’s School of Literacy through Arts, Culture, and History. The application deadline for both of these programs is March 29th. The Governor’s Honors Academy requires a letter of recommendation from the Superintendent which should be completed by March 22nd at the latest! If you are heading out on a road trip, fueling up your car is a must. The same is true for people too. Our bodies need fuel to function properly. A nutritious (and delicious) breakfast sets students up for the rest of the day. To highlight the importance of a nutritious breakfast, the School Nutrition Association has designated this week as National School Breakfast Week. As a part of this campaign, WCS cooks created a special breakfast menu for the week. A strawberry cream bagel was on the menu today!

At the half - Wayne - 38 Keyser - 10 WHS' Addie Adkins has hit five threes and leads all scorers at the half with 15 points.

The boys and girls West Virginia State Wrestling Tournament took place over the weekend in Huntington at Mountain Health Arena. This is the first year the boys and girls state wrestling tournaments were held in the same location. Having all the state’s best wrestlers in one venue was electric. The atmosphere made for a great back drop for one of the state’s most dominant wrestlers, Spring Valley’s Ciera Riner. 4-Peat: Ciera finished this season just like the previous three, state champion. She also picked up her 200th career win enroute to her 4th state title! Winning one state championship is a tough, winning four in a row is almost unheard of. Congratulations Ciera on a tremendous high school wrestling career! Ciera was not the only Timberwolf that earned a spot on the podium – Jocelyn Adkins took home second place and Rebekah Napier took home third place in their respective divisions! Congratulations Jocelyn and Rebekah! Earning a top spot at the state tournament highlights the hard work put in to reach this point.

Lockdown Lifted: The soft lockdown for all schools in Wayne County has been lifted. Through their investigation, law enforcement determined there is no credible threat to any school, students, or staff in Wayne County. WCS appreciates the quick and thorough response from our law enforcement partners on this matter. We would also like to thank all our parents/guardians and students/staff for your cooperation and understanding this morning. Thank you.

This morning, Monday, March 4th, law enforcement informed WCS (Wayne County Schools) about a concerning message found on Snapchat. The message was not school specific. Out of an abundance of caution, WCS is operating on a soft-lockdown while police investigate the matter. Thank you.

Some of the sights from a FIRED UP Wayne High School Pep Rally today! The girl's basketball team has already locked in their trip to the state tournament in Charleston. The boy's team plays Logan High School tonight and is looking to punch their ticket! Let's go Pioneers!

The Buffalo Bots, one of BMS' Vex/Robotics teams, added a few more awards to their resume recently. The team took home the Excellence Award and the Teamwork Champion Award during a competition earlier this month! With those awards secured, the Buffalo Bots secured a spot in the regional championship. Congratulations!

Last week Special Olympics competitions were held at Spring Valley and Tolsia High Schools! Students from across Wayne county were able to participate in Basketball and Cheerleading tournaments! Thank you to everyone who helped with this event and congratulations to the participants!

Is your class interested in learning more about Japanese Culture? This free program offered by Marshall University is currently scheduling classroom visits in April and May!

This week we are highlighting the Governor's School of Entrepreneurship that will take place July 7th-21st at Marshall University! 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students can apply for this free program. Students will learn about business models, design, and venture capital for innovative ideas. The GSE strives to build a vision for investing in West Virginia’s future. The GSE includes team competitions, expert-driven courses, and opportunities to launch new business ventures. Mrs. Smith's 3rd grade class set a goal to reach 130 AR points...and they promptly knocked that goal out of the park! To celebrate their hard work, students got to open the Big Orange Box, or B.O.B. as the students say, in their classroom. The B.O.B. comes from a book students read earlier this year, “Stink and the Midnight Zombie Walk." Inside the box, was a copy of that book for each student! Congratulations LES 3rd graders! Mrs. Smith’s 3rd grade class got to open B.O.B. on Monday after the class met their goal of reaching 130 AR points as a class. B.O.B. is a Big Orange Box and was part of a book that the class read in the fall. “Stink and the Midnight Zombie Walk” congratulations 3rd grade, we are proud of you.
