Today, we take a moment to shine a spotlight on the incredible individuals who keep our schools running smoothly behind the scenes. From the dedicated custodians who keep our classrooms clean 🧹, to the cafeteria staff who nourish our students 🍎, to the bus drivers who ensure our kids arrive safely 🚍— and all of the many other personnel professionals in-between — you are the heart and soul of our school community! ❤️
Thank you for your hard work, your kindness, and your unwavering support. You make a difference every day, and our schools wouldn’t be the same without you. 🙏👏
Let’s give a huge shoutout to the heroes who keep our schools strong! 🙌

Community members volunteered their time last weekend to create some exciting new activities on the playground at East Lynn Elementary! PK students were the first to check out the upgrades and the students gave their stamp of approval! Thank you to all who made this possible!

Wayne County Schools Parents & Guardians,
There have been a rash of social media threats across the nation this week. These threats are intended to create hysteria and disrupt school operations. Multiple counties in West Virginia have had to deal with non-credible threats this week including some surrounding counties.
The latest non-credible threat originates from a western state and lists dozens of schools in West Virginia in an attempt to create as much disruption as possible. The list includes “Wayne High School” and “Valley High School” in reference to a threat for Friday.
Law enforcement are aware of these social media posts and the West Virginia Office of Homeland Security School Safety Division closely monitors this activity and notifies school districts and local law enforcement. Law enforcement has determined this threat is non-credible.
Please speak with your student about notifying you or adults at the school immediately if they see a threat online involving their school. Wayne County Schools will continue to work with law enforcement partners to monitor these threats.

🤣 😢 😤 🤯 We all feel emotions. While the number varies for everyone, studies have shown the average person has 400 emotional experiences every day. That is nearly 150,000 emotional experiences every year.
To learn how to deal with a variety of emotions in a healthy way, students at CK Middle School worked through interactive stations in health class. Some of the activities in the lesson were coloring, laughing, acts of service, and deep breathing. 💚

🎉➕ This is not your average math lesson! 4th graders at East Lynn are currently working on place values. To engage the students in her lesson, Mrs. Ross broke out an elementary school staple...scooters!
Students played Place Value Scooter Races. They had to solve a problem and then race out to the hallway on their scooters to collect the number cubes that matched their answer. The students had a blast while also learning an important math skill! 👏
Who else suddenly wants to review place values using scooters!? 🤗🎉

🆕 ⚙️ Notice anything different about the Kellogg Elementary Tiger Patrol? The team recently received new safety patrol belts and pins from Project Westmoreland! They students were thrilled to receive and equipment upgrade.
🤜🤛 Community partnerships are so important to our schools, thank you Project Westmoreland! You look great, Tigers! 🐅

Before Competitions 🥁
&
Before Friday Night Lights 🎺
🎷 There is 6th Grade Band. WMS 6th graders are firing up their instruments this Friday. Does anyone else remember their time in 6th Grade Band? What instrument did you play?

🤖 It's time to fire up the drones, write the code, and turn ideas into reality! The East Lynn Robotics Team had their first practice of the year on Wednesday and they are, ⚙️🆙 Another exciting year of competitions is just around the corner!

👏The VMS volleyball team, and their parents and coaches, took some time on Friday to give their school some TLC. The group cleaned up and put down a fresh coat of paint in and around the gym area! 🙌
They had a great time and the end result looks awesome! Way to go, Tigers! 🐅 🏐
Huge shoutout to our Volleyball girls, coaches and parents for the new paint and cleaning job they worked on Friday! The girls had a fantastic time and we appreciate all the effort from our Tiger Crew!

We are beyond grateful for the time, care, sacrifices, and dedication of our employees. They are the foundation of everything we do! Happy Labor Day!

Today Crum PK-8 held a celebration to reward students who earned Green or Blue on the state assessment last year. A slip-n-slide and inflatable axe throwing station were brought in for the kids to enjoy and cool down in the dog days of summer. Way to go Mounties!

Third graders at Prichard Elementary are building their conceptual understanding of area during the "Paint the Desk" activity. This is the first of many lessons in the new Carnegie Clear Math curriculum where students will engage in the conceptual development of math.
This curriculum focuses on:
🔵 Critical Thinking
🔵 Rigor
🔵 Reasoning
🔵 Collaboration
🔵 Problem Solving
Way to go, PES!!

🇺🇸 American Legion 93 of Kenova talked about the American Flag with 4th and 5th grade students at Dunlow Elementary. Students learned the history and traditions of our countries flag.
The students were eager to learn and asked great questions throughout the lesson. At the end, the students were presented with an American Flag that has flown over the United States Capitol! Thank you for stopping by, Post 93!

🤝 Kicking off the year with team-building activities!
These creative 4th graders at Kellogg learned the power of teamwork and collaboration by completing challenges together and squaring off in a rock, paper, scissors competition. It was a joy to watch them learn new things about themselves and their classmates!

Fred the (gummy) worm was in need of help last week and third graders at East Lynn stepped in to help. In small groups, students used paper clips to put a life preserver on fred. Next they designed and built a safety device to help Fred land safely on the ground.

It's happening, it is finally happening! Welcome back students, we've missed you! Make this year, your year.

We've had this date circled for awhile! Enjoy the final day of summer break, and we will see you in the morning!
